Cultural competency is a neologism which describes an ability to navigate cultures and languages fluidly. As a demanded, specific skill, one might say it is new, after all, the US State Department only listed it as a definite criterion in the 2010s. Yet, as a concept, it is quite old, and it has a long history of being carefully inculcated.
